Private Lessons via ZOOM

If you have the ZOOM app on your computer, it’s very easy to engage in private instruction from a remote location. Recent and current students are scattered throughout the world: England, Italy, Australia and in the U.S. Each lesson can be recorded for on-demand reference.

Students can study any of the following subjects:

Composition in jazz and popular styles as well as tradition Western European music (Baroque counterpoint, Classical and Romantic harmony, orchestration, etc.)

Arranging in jazz and popular styles for all instrumental ensembles (including big band and orchestra), various chamber groups (jazz and traditional), and vocal ensembles (traditional a cappella choir and modern jazz and pop groups).

Harmony – diatonic and chromatic, Roman numeral function, parallel harmony, modal harmony, modern dissonance, pop and blues.

Counterpoint – free style, Baroque and 20th century styles, inventions and fugues in traditional and modern styles.

Personal projects – share your creative endeavors and get specific advice to garner the best possible result.

Improvisation for beginning and intermediate levels. Music educators with little or no jazz education are encouraged to inquire.

There is no obligation for perpetual study. The student chooses the topic and how often to meet.

Preparation: time is best utilized when the student has an articulated agenda. It is important to have questions ready or defined concepts to discuss within the context of a specific piece of music.

Each lesson is 60 minutes but can be lengthened if requested. Additional time is charged in 30 minute increments.
